The Iowa Unity Coalition is pleased to announce the endorsement of Shelley Skuster for Des Moines School Board District 1 in the upcoming election to be held on November 2, 2021. The Iowa Unity Coalition is dedicated to building political power within our diverse and underrepresented communities at every level of government.

Shelley Skuster is a former TV reporter and the mother of 4 young children, all enrolled in the Des Moines Public Schools. Ms. Skuster believes the board needs to listen to the voices of the community and then act in the best interests of students without becoming involved in partisan politics. She is not afraid to make hard decisions if it will benefit kids. She understands the need for every student to have the opportunity and resources they need to learn, particularly students of color. The Coalition believes she will be a strong advocate for all students and their families.
