The Iowa Unity Coalition is pleased to announce the endorsement of Maria Alonzo for re-election to the Des Moines School Board At-Large in the upcoming election to be held on November 4, 2025. The Iowa Unity Coalition is dedicated to building political power within our diverse and underrepresented communities at every level of government.

Maria Alonzo has been a counselor/advocate for Polk County Crisis and Advocate Services for over 25 years and is the mother of 3. She is a member of AFSCME and is a co-founder of Giant Peaks Soccer. Ms. Alonzo has served on the several community advocacy boards including LUNA. She is driven by her passion for the community and works to cultivate hope. Ms. Alonzo has been an advocate for the well being of students as well as a strong voice for the Latinx and immigrant communities on the board. 



The Iowa Unity Coalition believes Ms. Alonzo deserves re-election as she has been a strong advocate for all families and brings a unique perspective to the board. Her experience and dedication have made her an asset to the community.
