The Iowa Unity Coalition is pleased to announce the endorsement of Maria Alonzo for Des Moines School Board At-Large in the upcoming election to be held on November 2, 2021. The Iowa Unity Coalition is dedicated to building political power within our diverse and underrepresented communities at every level of government.

Maria Alonzo has been a counselor/advocate for Polk County Crisis and Advocate Services for 22 years. She is a member of AFSCME and is a co-founder of Giant Peaks Soccer. Ms. Alonzo previously served on the board of LUNA. The Coalition believes Ms. Alonzo will be an advocate for the well being of students as well as a strong voice for the Latino and immigrant community.
